THEME CAMPS

Theme Camps are the idyllic building blocks of Southern Smoulder. They are welcoming communal spaces and offer opportunities for interaction with everyone. Creating a Theme Camp also helps groups to organise communal food and shelter, and get continual inspiration and motivation from each other.

Creating a Theme Camp takes commitment, but in appreciation of the group effort it takes to pull an awesome Theme Camp off, we are offering a special ticket deal - 5 tickets for $500 via the ticketing webpage

Here are some of things that'll help with making a theme camp.

Theme Camp Elements:

* Fun/Interesting *

* Visually Stimulating *
* Interactive *
* Neighbourly *
* Safety Conscious *
* Anti MOOP *

* Well prepared *

A theme camp should look and feel like a place people want to experience and be openly inviting enough so they are able to experience it. Consider how you can be visually stimulating, have an inviting design, and clear entrance/egress. Signs are great for telling people who you are and what you are up to.

Theme camps need to do something that anyone can be a part of. This can include anything from hosting activities, workshops and events, to creating an art installation as a group or providing public services within the camp. When you register you will be required to provide a blurb for your camp and details on what you are bringing so we can add it to the event guide and let everyone know.

Camps should be neighbourly. Acting with consideration with sound volume, the placement of generators, and not blocking thoroughfares to other campsites. Make friends with those around you and share resources to maximise the good times for all. If you are keen for more people to join your camp, post on the Facebook page.

Camps must have and follow adequate safety protocols, proper handling of fuels, fire, electronics, safety equipment, and any other safety concern where needed.
Plan your camps structure to withstand wind and rain, but also provide shade on a hot sunny day. The weather on site is unpredictable, so be sure to bring extra tarps, cords and pegs. You will be required to fill out a H&S plan for your camp, and site managers will come around to check that it is enacted. Identify hazards and think about ways to avoid negative situations.

The more time more people spend in a location increases the likelihood and density of MOOP occurring. As a camp you need to be aware of this and consider ways of preventing it from being a problem. Encourage people to take their rubbish away with them, but be prepared to take a little bit extra home with you.

If you are planning on serving alcohol, please be responsible and provide snacks and water if possible.

Be mindful of Civic Responsibility- Don’t serve minors or overly intoxicated individuals.

If someone shows up at your Theme Camp in a bad state, offer them help or take them to Psycare to recover.

Look the part, you're not just camping you're theme camping,

Think about decor, costumes, ambient music and what vibe you want to bring to the event.
